100 % PCR – rPE from recycled beverage cartons

M·CYCLOSE® rPELD 050 nat is a plastic recyclate that is 100 % from Post-consumer recyclate (PCR) is obtained. The raw material base is PE from used beverage cartons from the waste stream. The material is an impressive sustainable solution for a wide range of applications in plastics processing. M·CYCLOSE® rPELD 050 nat can be used both pure as well as proportionally in formulations.

Thanks to its versatile properties, M·CYCLOSE® rPELD 050 nat is suitable for blown film extrusion, extrusion, injection moulding and the extrusion blow moulding of small hollow parts in the non-food sector. Also as inner layer film the recyclate can also be used as an inner layer film. It is greenish translucent and can be coloured with suitable colour masterbatches.

The special sustainability aspect lies in the use of 100% PCR material made from recycled beverage cartons which helps to conserve resources. M·CYCLOSE® rPELD 050 nat thus supports more environmentally friendly plastic applications and enables the development of recyclable products.

From beverage carton to resource

rPE made from beverage cartons

Beverage cartons are difficult to recycle due to their complex composite materials. Saperatec GmbH has developed a water-based separation technology that efficiently separates the multi-layered components and recovers high-quality raw materials. This recycled PE, based on post-consumer recyclate, contributes to the circular economy and can be used in new products both pure and as a filler.

Sustainability – Use of recycled materials

German Packaging Award ceremony

In the category "Sustainability – Use of recycled materials" of the German Packaging Award a joint project for the development of a sustainable packaging concept by the Feddersen Group and the partner companies saperatec GmbH (PCR supplier), Palbo GmbH (manufacturer of the container) and our sister company AF-COLOR was honoured.

The award-winning project comprised a packaging solution that represents a recycling approach using composite material. The container is made from 50% post-consumer recycled polyethylene (PCR-PE) and 50% high-density polyethylene (HDPE). It was coloured using AF-Color® PCR masterbatches in the colours blue, black and silver. The PCR material used in the container originally comes from recycled beverage cartons and demonstrates the potential of recycling these material streams.
