M·VERA® A5002

Biodegradable in the soil without microplastics

M·VERA® A5002 is a biodegradable plastic compound that is certified according to DIN EN 17033 Biodegradable in Soil and is therefore fully biodegradable in soil. It is safe for applications with direct food contact according to EU 10/2011 and FDA (Food and Drug Administration, USA).

Very good tear resistance, good punchability, high elongation at break and low density ensure the film's outstanding specific properties. The plastic compound was specially developed for the production of mulch films and can be easily processed on conventional blown film machines – and farmers can also use their existing laying and planting machines. These properties make M·VERA® A5002 an excellent choice for the production of agricultural films.

M·VERA® A5002 has an opaque appearance and can be easily coloured with the specially developed AF-Eco® black masterbatch.

Advantages of soil-biodegradable mulch film

Mulch films made from the bioplastic M·VERA® A5002 offer a time-saving and practical solution for agriculture: after harvesting, they can simply remain in the field and be ploughed under – without time-consuming collection, cost-intensive disposal, soil erosion or the retention of microplastics.

The independent testing institute DIN CERTCO confirms complete soil degradability in accordance with the European standard DIN EN 17033 for mulch films with the "Biodegradable in Soil" certificate. This not only saves farmers time and money, but also contributes to soil-conserving and future-orientated cultivation.

How does biodegradation work?

Naturally occurring soil microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi, settle on the mulch film after ploughing and use it as a food source. During this metabolic process, the film is completely broken down biologically, resulting only in CO₂, water and biomass as end products. This helps maintain soil quality and prevents the formation of harmful microplastics. M·VERA® A5002 has no toxic effects on the soil or environment, as confirmed by the ecotoxicity test carried out as part of the certification process. The actual speed of biological degradation under real field conditions depends on several factors, such as the thickness of the mulch film, water availability, soil composition, availability of nutrients and oxygen, as well as other climatic and agricultural parameters.
