Our Biomaterials

Compounds for Industrial Applications

Sustainable Compounds

An Outstanding Range of Biomaterial Products

Our compounds are produced by AKRO-PLASTIC in Germany since BIO-FED is a branch of AKRO-PLASTIC GmbH. In the past 30 years, AKRO-PLASTIC has grown steadily and has extensive expertise in the area of plastic compounding and an annual global production capacity of approximately 180,000 tonnes. Our materials are well established in a number of applications and can be used in various processing methods.

Our bioplastic film compounds are used for products like shopping bags, fruit and vegetable bags as well as for labels, agricultural applications and a lot more. Our bioplastic materials for injection moulding can be used for coffee capsules, cutlery, cosmetic packaging, toys, plant clips and so on. All our products can be colored individually with our suitable masterbatches.

Our Plastic Compounds

The Right Product for Your Application

Our M·VERA® and M·BIOBASE® compounds can be used for a wide variety of applications. They are suitable for different processing technologies and can be processed on conventional plastics machinery. Drying is usually not necessary as our biocompounds are delivered ready for use. Furthermore, our compounds can easily be colored with our suitable masterbatches.

We have several compounds in our portfolio:

  • With different certificates of biodegradability
  • With different amounts of renewables and/or biobased carbon content
  • With biomass-balanced content - optionally also filled with glass or wood
  • M·VERA® A series for agricultural films
  • M·VERA® B series for bag applications
  • M·VERA® F series for monofilament applications (e.g. 3D printing)
  • M·VERA® GP series for general purpose applications (e.g. injection moulding, extrusion and thermoforming)
  • M·BIOBASE® PPC/PPH series of biomass-balanced polypropylene compounds for durable applications (e.g. injection moulding, extrusion, fibre applications)

The Bioplastic Product Family

Bioplastics were first developed as an alternative to petroleum-based plastics. The term bioplastic involves an entire family of products with different properties and applications. A plastic can be classified as a bioplastic if it is either biobased (partly or fully), biodegradable, or both. Biobased bioplastics can be made using a wide range of different feedstocks such as starch, sugar or cellulose – first-generation feedstock. For instance, Polylactic Acid (PLA) is made by using sugar fermentation and is often used for products such as mobile phone components, bottles and other packaging. Furthermore, the bioplastics industry is committed to feedstock diversification. Currently, the first-generation feedstock is in use, and efforts are made to switch to the second generation. The second generation of feedstock can be sugars from bagasse, straw etc. There are also concepts for turning CO2 or CH4 directly into green building blocks – bypassing the agricultural step altogether.
